Android OS development work In the mobile industry, the hand phone operating system (OS) is currently being dominated by Apple’s iPhone. The Apple iPhone is still the leading OS in the marketplace, with no sign of slowing down. In fact, other competitors like RIM, WinMO, Palm and Symbian have all posted southward trends. If there is no new player entering the market, it seems like the iPhone OS is set to take over the entire market.
The primary reason behind iPhone’s huge success is that the OS allows third party applications to be installed in the phone. These applications are developed by third party software developers, and distributed through the Apple’s official website. Having an open platform allows developers to respond quickly to consumers’ requests. There is no need to wait for Apple to release apps. Based on the feedback received, developers can release useful applications in a matter of weeks. So far, no other OS has been able to match this capability. To date, the Apple iPhone has already captured an estimated 50% market share.
Fortunately, there is a new player in town - the Android OS. This new contender in the marketplace is developed by Google, and is based on a similar open concept. Developers can develop apps using managed code in Java. As Java is a mature programming language, many developers will have little problems picking up the development work. While the Android OS is still far from overtaking the iPhone, it is catching fast. In fact, it is the only mobile OS to have posted an upward trend (besides iPhone of course). In just a few short months, it has captured a market share of 5%.
As this is a new OS, only HTC has released Android supported phones - namely, the G1. Since the G1 phone is a new release, it is mainly used to gather information from the market place. Consumers who have picked up the phone are providing priceless feedback to the company. Based on the feedback, the next generation of the Android phone is currently being developed (the G2). Enthusiasts in the blogosphere are watching the developments very closely. So far, a lot of interest has been shown in the development of the Android phone.
This new development poses exciting possibilities. Other mobile companies would be keen to manufacture Android phones so that they remain relevant and competitive in the marketplace. Samsung and Sony Ericsson are both rumored to be working on Android phones. China telecommunications giant, Huawei Technologies, already announced that they will be releasing an Android phone for the Chinese market in the third quarter.
It will be interesting to observe the developments when more and more companies start to manufacture Android phones. Will iPhone be threatened in the marketplace? How will consumers choose between the iPhone and the Android phone? Much depends on the applications developed by the third party developers. The OS with the most active platform will eventually emerge as the winner.

Yes. The android SDK includes an emulator call AVD or Android Virtual Device. It is limited in some respects because it can't receive calls or be moved around for GPS testing, but for simple games and web-apps it's perfect for users who don't want to invest in a development phone.
Here's a website on how to use the AVD in the basic sense:
http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/avd.html
However I recommend using the Eclipse Android Development Tool (ADT) plugin for all your work as the AVD launcher is built right into the normal launch system for Eclipse. Here's a page on how to install that:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/eclipse-adt.html
Obviously you'll need to install Eclipse for Java Developers and the Android SDK first. If you haven't done that yet, here are the pages you need to get that done:
http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/
http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing.html
The HTC incredible hands down. the phone is better overall. but if you need a physical keyboard then go for the Droid with is pretty good too.
You can download Cyanogen and many other custom ROMs from http://www.androidspin.com/
Or you can download the Cyanogen updater app from the Android Market and get it from there. (while that still works)

android 17 and 18 are activated in season 4 - disc 5 - episode 133.
i believe the super android 17 saga are the episodes 26 - 32 of dbgt.
For most of the high end Android phones, Google, HTC and Motorola will update them into the latest version automatically, the only difference is that they have different timeline due to customization of Android
sorry, but there is not a way to get Android on the Impression. and i'm not just making this up. its a proven fact. the only OS that this phone will ever run is the one it comes with, TouchWiz.
HTC…. u want to know more … try reading xdevelopers forums , they contain excellent arrticles
I am not sure that is the case….Currently, you have to have an android phone to run android software.

Everything on this list is free from the android market
Most if not all applications in this list have 4 stars and up.
Applications:
Advance task killer - kill running task easily
Album art grabber - if you cant find album art for some of your music this app is the best.
Apps Organizer - Organize your apps (especially if you have allot on your home screen)
Astro - it's like a windows explorer. Allows you to look through the directories on the phone and much more (you can also view png files that you email to yourself if you download this)
Barcode scanner - Allows you to easily download apps from the web strait to your droid using a desktop or laptop
Bible (YouVersion) - The best bible app out there. Gives you access to all translations you can think of
Documents to go - allows you to view pdf, word, excel, (and I think PowerPoint) from your droid
Droid light - turns your led flash into a flash light
Google voice - if you have a Google voice account, you can send text messages and call

An even better one than the ScreenModeWidget is ScreenOn - allows you to pick which applications you want the screen to say on for. So say you are using the browser and you don't want the screen to turn off, then open screen on and select browser and the screen will stay on as long as the browser is open.
Tech Buzz widget - stay up to date with all the latest android news (this is a must have)
iMusic - allows you to listen to almost any music you can think of free. Also allows you to download the music free as well. Just search for your favorite artist and see their music pop up.

Games
Air hockey demo
—Poke a mole
Radiant lite

HomerunBattle3D
GameBoid Lite
Robo Defense
Raging Thunder 2

Engadget - Keep up to date with the latest technology.
Lookout - Anti virus for android, gives remote wipe if your device is stolen. Also tells you the exact location of your phone if it is lost and it will play a loud siren for you to find it.
It's a long list, but I hope this helps
Android is tied directly to Google applications. When you logged on to the phone the first time to set it up, you had to use a Google account, remember?
Go to your Google mail account on line, import or update all your contacts, and that's it. They will automatically be synced over the data connection to the phone. Any changes you make on the phone or the online account will sync with the other automatically.
This also occurs with Google mail and calendars.

you have a leap here since you experienced in developing games in java..
Get the SDK
I recommend you using Eclipse with the plugin for Android.
Learn the application architecture
http://code.google.com/android/intro/anatomy.html
Learn the activity lifecycle
http://code.google.com/android/reference/android/app/Activity.html#ActivityLifecycle
and you should find a good documentation here
http://code.google.com/android/index.html
anyway, if you have an advanced experience in game programming (any language) there is a good book for you called Pro Android Games
search it on amazon or download it online (with source code)

Best luck of you

If you haven't change any settings of your emaill account, then, I think it maybe the connection problem. And you just need to have a check the wireless connection status, for example, the WLan Settings, or the nework settings supplied by the Carrier.
Whish you good luck.
And, if you need any apps to assist you, maybe you could find some here:

Some countries don't get the Market installed on the Hero, so it depends on either where you live or what country the phone was purchased from. Read this thread, it explains a bit more:

You can root the phone and install an updated ROM, and that usually includes the Market app.

Is "Android" a language or something?
Android system does not understand PE format. so called windows exe files are in this format (PE stands for Portable Executable but it is not so portable after all!). likely Android executable frmat is ELF, a well-known widely used (among several systems) "codes container".
moreover, the code into windows executable files is for x86 processors (or for CLR, not JVM), and Android hardware for sure has no x86 processors and afaik no x86-opcode compatible processor too.
so basically, it's nonsense "converting" an exe (specific format, specific system, specific machine code for specific processor, specific library bindings) into "a file Android can 'read'" (oh, as passive data you can transfer the exe to android as it is, but forget it can run it or even "see" that there's code inside! just data to it!)
Yes, the 2.1 version is much better but I am not sure of any good speech to text.
MyTouch!!!! Ive had it since October and its the best phone ever! You can personalize it. For instance my case is pictures of my daughter. It should only be like $200 if that. Has a lot of memory. It has google gps built in and gives you talking directions and a whole lot more. Go with the MyTouch you'll love it.
You could just pay for the apps as it supports the devs.
ASTRO is very useful but an amazing application is Shazam (both are free).
The Android has a HUGE market compared the the Blackberry one, and most of them are free. Also, Android's market is rapidly expanding.
You can get the Eris on Verizon for less than $100.
Sounds like "Hotori: Tada Saiwai wo Koinegau"

Well done. You have trained in an open source project. The whole idea of open source is that it is freely available, which means it generally has to be free to users. What makes you think someone is going to pay you to develop software which has to be given away? Study something which earns money.
Download the app called iMusic.you can download music straight from your phone from there.Works great.
