It's different. How different? If you're experienced, it's not much different. If you have no experience, it's NOT the first thing you should tackle. (You should at least know how to slice up a picture and make a theme from the slices.) There are tutorial sites for making WP themes.

It's actually PHP. For the most part, it's not really that difficult, if you have a good understanding of css. You just design the layout and plot your module positions, then drop the php code in your div tags.

I need a little help.. I’m trying to make a joomla theme with photoshop. I noticed you have the etc_link. What is that? this is my first crack at making a web theme.
So I just want to make sure I do everything right. Is there a list of what names for the layers I should have for what? you did a quick once over on the “Left_Joomla” but I’m not sure about the rest. Please help ^^;; ty <3

You're contradicting yourself.
A "professional" wordpress theme is not automatically generated. Likewise, you don't jump straight into doing "professional" wordpress themes. You start by learning how to code in html and css (photoshop isn't actually play that big a part), then design your first wordpress theme, and slowly improve your own skills, until you get good enough to be considered "professional"

This is not an easy thing to do without knowing how to design a Wordpress template.
Unless you have some knowledge of PHP and MySQL I suggest if you are really in love with your HTML template is try and have a pro convert it for you.
